From the Caribbean and African cultures, Cascarilla is a fine powder from the bark of a large, tropical shrub which is used in rituals for protection, purification, and cleansing. It expels negative energy in all its forms and creates a barrier between the natural and supernatural worlds. Some of its many uses are those in which it is sprinkled around doorways and windows to repel evil forces, dissolved in cleaning water for the environment, or added to bath water to aid in the success of other rituals.
